Medical Cards

Basic treatment for medical card patients is free, but strictly limited by HSE. Patients are entitled to one exam, two fillings, any number of extractions, and prescriptions in each calendar year. Other treatments (e.g. Dentures) must be applied for, and will be provided for at the discretion of the HSE.

If you have a medical card you will need to bring it with you for each appointment. If you do not have a valid medical card on the day, you will be asked to pay privately and then the money will be refunded on presentation of your card. Only patients aged over 16 with medical cards ending in ‘A’ or ‘B’ are eligible under the scheme.
