Most people’s teeth are not naturally snow white and have a hue of yellow, grey or beige. Teeth tend to darken with age and from certain foods, smoking, tea, coffee and red wine. Whitening penetrates the tooth enamel and oxidises the chemicals that darken the teeth below the surface layer without doing any damage to the tooth structure.

6% hydrogen peroxide gel is the highest strength of whitening gel that can be legally administered and only a dentist can dispense this to you.

We recommend using a home whitening kit. An impression of your teeth is taken in order to make customized trays for your mouth. We will then give you a whitening gel which you dispense into the tray at home before inserting it into your mouth and wearing it overnight. The trays are usually worn daily until the desired shade is achieved. Usually this takes about two weeks. The effect of whitening usually lasts one to two years. After this time, the whitening effect can be topped up by wearing your trays for a couple of nights. You can purchase extra syringes of gel from us at the surgery.
